The second location of Stage Kitchen & Bar from chef Pushkar Marathe and restauranter Andy Dugard is now open in Boca Raton. The restaurant was designed by the team’s longtime collaborator, Anna Woodman Interior Design, South Florida’s premiere commercial interior design firm.
Located on Boca’s highly sought-after Restaurant Row, the design for the second iteration of Stage (pronounced “staahj”) Kitchen & Bar was inspired by the original location in Palm Beach Gardens, also spearheaded by Woodman, and the global flavors guests will find on the menu.
Stage Kitchen & Bar is known for its modern small plates and cuisine inspired by Chef Marathe’s Indian roots and extensive international travels. Woodman’s design draws on those experiences to deliver an approachable, eclectic vibe that immerses guests from the moment they enter the restaurant.
“Our guests’ experience begins the moment they step inside our door. Anna has and continues to be an integral part of our team, visually bringing to life our vision for that first impression,” said Dugard in a statement.
Inspired by the original design, Stage Kitchen & Bar exudes a quiet sophistication with deep blues and metallic hues of burnished bronze and copper. With three distinct dining environments catering to intimate gatherings and larger parties, the restaurant offers versatility for diners without compromising style.
The open layout and expansive ceilings are accentuated by metallic chain features, adding a contemporary flair to the central banquette at the heart of the restaurant. Innovative lighting and a backlit bar also elevate the ambiance, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere.
In the dining room, faux leather in rich caramel tones, complemented by luxe shades of blue, adorn the seating areas, while walnut wood tones balance the overall aesthetic.
Outside, diners can bask in the beauty of a landscaped fountain, the focal point of Restaurant Row. Guests can even indulge in a culinary experience underneath a pristine white pergola, surrounded by lush greenery with contemporary seating.
“Chef Marathe and Andy’s concepts are always culturally rich, and it’s exciting to bring them to life through design,” said Woodman. “It’s my hope for new diners here in Boca Raton to feel completely immersed in the culinary experience, enhanced by the design and ambiance of the space.”
Stage Kitchen & Bar is located at 5377 Town Center Rd., Suite 200 in Boca Raton, FL. The indoor-outdoor 5,974 square foot space has an occupancy of 189 people.
Woodman’s previous work with Chef Marthe and Dugard includes Stage Kitchen & Bar and Ela Curry & Cocktails, both in Palm Beach Gardens.
Anna Woodman Interior Design has worked with nationwide brands, franchises and upscale independent restaurants across the country. A few notable projects the firm has completed include Seasons 52, various Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse locations across the U.S., Disney Springs’ Polite Pig, Cocina 214, Ravenous Pig in Winter Park and Cask & Larder in the Orlando International Airport.

Lisa Hay, What Now Miami (Mar.25, 2025) – Italian-inspired restaurant by P Hospitality Management Now Open
Photo: Official
Eddie & Vinny’s Coastal Italian is now open for dinner in the heart of Coral Springs. The new restaurant, taking over the former Tavolino Della Notte space, is the passion project of Eddie and Christina Pozzuoli, alongside partner Paul Greenberg (formerly of American Social), the owners behind P Hospitality Management (which also includes the popular Corvina Seafood Grill and Prezzo Restaurants).
Located at 10181 West Sample Road, Eddie & Vinny’s brings a taste of culinary excellence with fresh, seasonal cuisine inspired by the Italian seaside, along with an array of Italian classics, an exceptional wine list, sophisticated cocktails, a chic and sophisticated design, and a lively ambiance. “This is a family business if ever there was one,” says Eddie in a statement, who’s father opened and operated Tavolino. “This space is where we fell in love with the restaurant business and introducing something new and exciting in a place overflowing with so many good memories is amazing. Opening our newest restaurant in this community is a dream come true.”
The 230-seat, indoor-outdoor space, designed by Anna Woodman and built by Cannatelli Builders, features a completely reimagined look that melds Mediterranean touches with contemporary elegance. Dark blues, caramel wood tones, brassy gold, and black & white touches create an atmosphere of opulence and sophistication. Views into the kitchen, spacious and airy dining area, and a swanky new bar and lounge meld seamlessly into one another to create a bustling and convivial atmosphere. The restaurant has a sleek, sexy design, plush barstools, and banquette seating, all perfect for enjoying a stellar lineup of live entertainment. Layered gold pendant lighting, black canvas exposed ceilings, and personal wine lockers – reflecting the bespoke wine membership that will be available – complete the look. A bustling bar welcomes guests as they step through the front door, setting a scintillating tone for an evening well-spent in Coral Springs. Perfect for private parties of all kinds are two private spaces, Eddie’s Room and Vinny’s Room, each named after the Pozzuoli children and the restaurant’s namesakes.

House-made pastas are plentiful with dishes like Spicy Rigatoni Vodka; Malfadine Cacio E Pepe; Lobster Linguine Fra Diavolo and Lasagna “Timballo Teramo” – Abruzzo-style layered Crepe Lasagna, Wagyu Bolognese and Four Cheese Mornay. Entrees run the gamut from steaks to seafood such as Local Yellowtail Livornese with olives, capers, tomato and Pinot Grigio and Tuscan Cowboy Ribeye Steak with rosemary & balsamic glazed cipollini onions. Of course, diners craving beloved classics (chicken parmigiana anybody?) will not be disappointed.
Freshly made desserts, an Italian-influenced wine list, and various classic and creative cocktails are also available.
The backstory: With its soulful Italian fare, ambitious cocktail program, and live entertainment, back in the day Tavolino, the brainchild of Ed Pozzuoli Sr., Eddie’s father, was the place to be in Coral Springs. Tavolino premiered in 2007 by Pozzuoli Sr. and partner Thomas Genduso. For more than a dozen years the restaurant was a beloved neighborhood destination for diners seeking meticulously executed Italian cuisine and a bustling lounge scene with live music. Eddie and Christina had been with the iconic restaurant since 2012, helping it grow into what it ultimately became. The restaurant changed ownership in June 2019 and ultimately closed in March 2024, although the property remained owned by the Pozzuoli family.
Eddie & Vinny’s is located at 10181 West Sample Road in Coral Springs. The restaurant serves dinner daily from 5PM – 10PM.

Restaurant design is always evolving. From materials to aesthetic trends to operational concerns, the last few years have presented major challenges, and successful operators and designers have responded nimbly, implementing innovation after innovation in trying times. We never know what the future will hold, but rd+d caught up with some restaurant designers to see what’s happening on the ground. One key takeaway? Keep up with technology!
Acoustical Attention
John Paul Valverde, principal and creative director, Coevál Studio, Dallas, is seeing a lot more attention being paid to restaurant acoustics. He’s working more with experts and sound engineers, doing studies on spaces and even making modifications to create perfect acoustics once a restaurant is open.
This might involve insulation and thicker walls in an effort to contain sound within a space. It often includes panels and fabrics used throughout a restaurant, and it often involves the layering of all these elements.
Managing the acoustics in restaurants has come a long way. In addition to acoustical panels that can blend in with the ceiling and disappear, there are now decorative panels that can be custom printed to continue the interior design’s themes or a restaurant’s branding, as well as hanging panels in different shapes that become part of the design instead of being disguised.
Or there are more hidden options such as acoustical wallpaper, which Valverde says “is a stylish, sound-absorbing wall covering made from materials designed to dampen sound, so it combines function and aesthetics and comes with a variety of textures and designs.”
Brian S. Thomas, principal, DP3 Architects, Greenville, S.C., is incorporating custom-printed felt-wrapped panels into a restaurant with a polished concrete floor. “We try to build it in so it looks intentional and not an afterthought,” he says.
AI Visuals
Restaurants are becoming more willing to invest in incredible visuals to provide a wow factor to guests, says Anna Woodman, Anna Woodman Interior Design, Jupiter, Fla. “Guests and patrons are expecting more.”
Woodman is using AI to give ideas to artists for custom wall coverings or framed artwork. “I can talk an idea into my phone and it will give me an image, then I can show it to the artist and ask him to create something similar,” she says. “AI helps me visually depict what I was looking for and helps me communicate.” So she’s using AI wisely, and retaining the human touch in the artwork. “I never want to take away from the artists who are so gifted and talented.”
Woodman is using technology in other ways, too. She’s worked on Ara in Jupiter, Fla., that had a custom digital wall covering. This was a high-resolution, custom-colored Type II vinyl product. “It incorporated metallic printing into the wall covering design, resulting in a gorgeous, glowing impact for guests,” she says.
Another restaurant Woodman is working with is retrofitting the ceiling over the bar with technology that will look like stars. They will glimmer and pick up the beat of the music.
“Technology is not going away, so how can we further enhance the creations we’re doing for our clients? How do we tap into it and merge it in the best way we can?” asks Woodman.
Another technique designers are turning to is video mapping. At Meximodo in Metuchen, N.J., Vincent Celano, principal and founder, Celano Design Studio in New York City, designed a back bar split into two halves with bottles on each side. In the middle, underneath a Mexican tile arch, is La Catrina, a traditional Day of the Dead muse, who watches over the restaurant. La Catrina brings an element of surprise to this high-energy restaurant — from time to time, she’ll wink, blow a kiss or rain flower petals, bringing moments of delight to unsuspecting guests.

Using More Local Products
Mountain pine beetles have killed more than 100 million acres of trees in the Western U.S. and Canada, much of them in Colorado. Because of this, these pine trees have been cut down and are “a great way to add a little local material into restaurants,” says Geneva Kowalski, owner and architect, Studio K2 Architecture, Denver.
Not only does this add local flair, but it’s also cost-effective and “elicits a connection to the outdoors and speaks to the local demographic, while also helping meet sustainability goals,” Kowalski says. Because the wood isn’t strong enough for structural work, it’s largely showing up in furniture design, including paneling, along bar dies or in ceilings. “Incorporating such appreciation for local influences helps create a sense of connection in each city,” she adds. The burrowing of the beetles creates a distinct blue tinge on the wood, which adds a unique aspect to furniture.
Kowalksi is also seeing restaurants add more live edge wood, especially to tables, countertops and shelving, made from hard woods like darker walnuts. This also adds a connection to the local area and the outdoors.
Design Integrated Into Architecture
Lighting, back bar elements and artisan craftsmanship are being integrated more into restaurants’ architecture instead of being added afterward as an adornment, says Courtnye Blair, senior interior designer with Parker-Torres Design, Boston.
At the Fairmont Kea Lani hotel in Maui, Hawaii, Parker-Torres’ senior designer Regan McLean worked with a local cultural advisor and incorporated a hand-carved piece as the back bar, integrating it completely. She used monkeypod wood throughout to connect the separate parts of the restaurant, with the wood from the entrance stretching across the ceiling to the bar. “All of the elements are heavily integrated,” says Blair. “It’s really important that it feels like something special; it’s that extra level of detail.”
At the Ritz-Carlton, Naples’ Club Lounge restaurant in Naples, Fla., Blair integrated elements of the lighting to add to the restaurant’s story. A light fixture above a dining table connects to two decorative fans that add interest and decor.

Standout Bar Faces
Bar fronts are becoming focal areas in restaurants, says Blair, “and not just a space under a counter.” At the Ritz-Carlton, Naples’ Nolita restaurant, she highlighted the bar front with maroon paint and gold metal reveals. And in the resort’s Sofra restaurant, she decorated the bar face with tile with a lot of texture and pattern. “It’s really sculptural, really textural and expands the feeling of the bar,” she says. “We’re integrating the bar with the whole space and not something plopped in the middle.”
Bringing more design to bar fronts give diners at tables something to see, and it also provides a wow moment when they first enter, Blair says.
Vibe Dining
Restaurant design is getting moodier, with lots of textures, very sophisticated sound systems and a distinctive vibe, says Nicole Herman, founder and principal interior designer, Social Design Studio, Scottsdale, Ariz.
This creates an entire experience of dining, Herman says. She’s been working with RDM Hospitality in Austin, Texas, and this fall opened Etta’s in Scottsdale. It features smaller lights to make the space feel moody and intimate, mixed with some show lighting and a DJ booth in each location that can augment and direct the mood as the night progresses.
Restaurants are using vibe dining to differentiate themselves beyond Instagram moments, according to Herman. “They want the whole thing to be an experience,” she says.
DJ booths can stand out or merge into the restaurant. At Etta’s, the booth mimics the bar face and has focal lighting over it; at Guest House in Austin, the DJ booth is hat-shaped and stands out more. The DJ booth makes the restaurant more of an entertainment venue, Herman says.
Valverde is also seeing more DJ booths in restaurants. “A lot of clients want this because they want the option to open later to increase revenue,” he says. At Snowbird in Frisco, Texas, he incorporated a DJ booth onto the second floor, “and a lot of people would rather enjoy that after dinner than drive somewhere else.”
Ideally, DJ booths blend in, says Valverde. Restaurants may not want to use them during the week, and they don’t want that space looking empty. Therefore, a DJ booth should function as a service bar or service table on those nights.
Extended Outdoor Dining
Restaurants are augmenting exterior spaces to extend the season and make them as attractive as dining inside.
Caryn Paradis, NCIDQ, owner, Studio Paradis, Chester, Conn., is finishing the design of a restaurant patio with firepits and lounge seating, a large chef’s table, bench seating with dining tables, and a full bar, all under a large structure with fans and heaters.
To make these spaces work in bad weather, restaurants are building structures, often made of steel, or including canvas covers that can be taken down during winter months, which is a less expensive option. Paradis is even designing blankets for exterior dining that continue restaurants’ brands.
These spaces, Paradis says, “are fully designed, with flooring, lighting, heaters and fans, water features, tiles, pavers, custom-designed furniture.” And manufacturers are bringing out many new lines for exterior hospitality, much of which can be customized. “It’s a good resource that designers don’t tap into enough,” she adds.
A problem with outdoor spaces is how they look during cold months, but Paradis is having custom, form-fitting covers made for outdoor furniture. However, for small items like table lamps, restaurants should design an interior storage space, she says.
Multiple Experiences Under One Roof
Consumers are looking to meet all of their needs under one roof. Paradis recently had requests for a restaurant with three experiences under one roof and one with five. “A restaurant we just completed has a small and intimate wine bar, a formal white-tablecloth dining room and a stone-floored tavern with a fireplace; there’s a place for everything,” she says. Other spaces include lounge seating, chef’s restaurants and event spaces. “The different areas have different moods,” she says.
Another example of multiple experiences is Spurrier’s Gridiron Grille in Gainesville, Fla., which, in addition to a dining room, offers a podcast room (that doubles as a private dining room), a room of trophies, private conference dining, rooftop dining, and a separate bar area upstairs that provides a different experience and vibe.
ADA Seating at Bars
Bars are not welcoming to wheelchairs because they’re too high. Restaurants must build in seating for them, but it’s always an afterthought, says Traci Weems, principal at GTM Architects, Bethesda, Md. ADA seating areas tend to be at the side of the bar, often by the service station, where it’s less pleasant to sit.
“I am hoping it will be more of a design solution,” Weems says. She points to a seafood restaurant she recently worked on where the ADA bar seating was planned to be right next to the oyster display and shucking area, “where it was going to be special seating that could also be ADA — that’s almost highlighting the best seats in the house.” Eventually, however, it had to be moved due to circulation issues. She did, however, design in a bar at dLeña in Washington, D.C., which curves and drops at one point to create an ADA spot that’s equally as desirable as any other place at the bar.
The key, Weems believes, is making these seats special so all customers want to sit there. She also expects to see more lower and deeper bars, which would also accommodate wheelchairs.
Dr. Carol Bentel, FAIA, FIIDA, ASID, LEED AP, partner, Bentel & Bentel Architects, Locust Valley, N.Y., came up with a creative solution to ADA bar seating at Hunter Restaurant, East Norwich, N.Y. The bar here curves and runs regular height for around two-thirds of its length, then “waterfalls” to ADA seating, so it’s completely integrated, she says. “That’s where everyone wants to sit because it’s a special spot,” she points out.

Going 3D
Building information modeling (BIM) is still fairly new to the restaurant world, but expect to see it used more, says Andrew Lengel, retail, food and beverage director with NELSON Worldwide, Minneapolis. BIM turns a 2D design process into 3D, so you can “create space, volume and give a quicker route to seeing things in three dimensions,” he says.
Restaurants haven’t really embraced BIM yet, largely due to cost, but some global restaurant brands have, especially in the fast-casual category.
The advantages, Lengel says, are that using BIM can help mitigate any lack of coordination between mechanical, engineering and construction teams. And BIM has, on many projects, been able to catch issues so there’s been fewer error and fewer changes, he says, “because with BIM, you can see if something is going to go wrong so you can avoid problems, largely.” For example, BIM can incorporate connectors, bolts and extra plates into steel beams, ensuring there’s enough space allocated for them. Or it can help get a feel for how many seats is the right amount for a dining room, he adds.
David Shove-Brown, partner at Washington D.C.-based architecture and design firm //3877, uses 3D technology to share models of projects with everyone involved in the design and building of a restaurant, including the owners. “So now, when it’s done, people are surprised to see it looks exactly like the renderings,” he says. This helps everyone make early decisions about what needs to be done, “and they can stand in the space and truly understand what it’s like and mitigate potential disasters.”
The technology can even help with pre-opening marketing. It will create a QR code, which owners can post on their door or include online while under construction “so people can imagine themselves being there when it opens,” Shove-Brown says. “It gets people jazzed and ready to come in.”

Once again helmed by chef Pushkar Marathe and restaurateur Andy Dugard, under their joint venture Flavor Builders Hospitality, the new restaurant is slated to open in early 2025 along the stretch of Town Center Road known as ‘Restaurant Row.’
Known for their Indian-inspired small plates, the new Stage (pronounced “staahj”) will draw inspiration from the original, Palm Beach Gardens location.
Making the USA TODAY Restaurants of the Year 2024 list and featuring a James Beard Award semifinalist chef, the popular restaurant definitely earns the term ‘hot spot’ on merit. It also, however, earns it for the method of cooking which is over wood-burning, open flame grills.
Marathe said there is something very special and skillful about cooking over a wood-burning grill, “You have to speak to the fire… have a relationship.” He said you really have to learn the skill and understand the difference between a young fire and a fire that’s an hour and a half old, and to be able to feed it properly to keep it where you want it, for what you are cooking. He added that cooking over open flame is “one of my favorite things.”Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.
Much like the ones at the Gardens restaurant, the Boca Raton grills will be custom made including a 9-foot-long Spanish-style parrilla that was actually built in Spain.
Pushkar Marathe is executive chef and co-owner of nationally acclaimed Stage Kitchen & Bar in Palm Beach Gardens and Boca Raton. With business partner Andy Dugard, Marathe also leads Ela Curry & Cocktails and Mango Mercato.
When asked about the menu at the Boca Raton restaurant in comparison with the wildly popular offerings at the Palm Beach Gardens location, Marathe said the menu in Boca Raton will be “very much similar” to the one in Palm Beach Gardens, “But we’ll have a separate section on the menu to cater to Boca residents.” He said “People love their steaks… there will be a daily cut list, cooked to order, including wagyu.”
Marathe said that they will be bringing all the Stage classics from Palm Beach Gardens to the new Boca Raton location specifically naming the chicken liver pate, bang bang cauliflower and grilled tandoori niman ranch churrasco.
He will oversee both the Palm Beach Gardens and Boca Raton locations, he said, and will have chefs working under him at each. “I’ll always be there to spearhead the operation and the menu.”
The bang bang cauliflower, one of the most popular dishes at Stage Kitchen & Bar in Palm Beach Gardens, will be available at their new location off of Town Center Road in Boca Raton when it opens in 2025.
Menu favorites at the Gardens location aren’t the only items that will travel south. Some popular beers brewed by nearby will also make an appearance. “We love our neighbors,” Marathe said. “We’ll take one or two from Twisted Trunk (down to Boca Raton).”
The new restaurant will be nearly 6,000 square feet and accommodate up to 189 guests with both indoor and covered outdoor seating. There will also be a 25-seat bar.
The grilled tandoori niman ranch churrasco, one of the many popular dishes at Stage Kitchen & Bar in Palm Beach Gardens, will be available at their new location in Boca Raton.
Setting the mood and helping recreate the ambiance that the Gardens location features will once again be Anna Woodman Interior Design. The restaurant will feature three distinct dining environments with deep blues and metallic hues of burnished bronze and copper.
Marathe said that he and Dugard have a great relationship working with Woodman. He said that she understands their ideas and vision and “brings them to reality.”
“Our guests’ experience begins the moment they step inside our door. Anna has and continues to be an integral part of our team, visually bringing to life our vision for that first impression” said Dugard.
Marathe said he’s excited about the being in the center of Boca Raton. He praised the area’s diversity, with potential customers ranging from professionals in high finance to students studying to enter the medical field at Florida Atlantic University.
“We’re excited to bring the eclectic, globally-inspired cuisine to Boca.”

The Ravenous Pig (Instagram| Website) in Winter Park launched an ambitious renovation last June that was expected to last just the summer but almost one full year later, the work has finally been completed.
The Michelin-recognized restaurant was almost completely redone by South Florida design firm, Anna Woodman Interior Design and Blankenship Architects. Anna Woodman Design was actually responsible for the design of the original restaurant, which was located further west on Orange Avenue before its move to its new location.
Updates and additions include a new custom artpiece by Locol Arts and Mojo metalworks near the front entrance, new leather-wrapped dining booths, a gallery wall with nods to the history of the restaurant, custom carpeting, chandeliers, and more. The bar has been resurfaced with a Cambria quartz countertop with brass alloy veining, and the bathrooms now sport new custom wallpaper, and dark wood finishes.
The Ravenous Pig is located at 565 W. Fairbanks Avenue [GMap].
South Florida commercial interior designer revamps award-winning Winter Park restaurant
JUPITER, Fla. (April X, 2024) – Anna Woodman Interior Design, South Florida’s premiere commercial interior design firm, has completed her redesign of one of Winter Park’s most popular eateries, The Ravenous Pig, by James Beard award-nominated owners and chefs Julie and James Petrakis of JP Restaurants.
The Ravenous Pig has become a fixture of the Orlando food scene, and guests can now enjoy their elevated American favorites with a Southern twist in a space inspired by the historic charm of Charleston, South Carolina.
The redesign, spearheaded by Anna Woodman, features a new, cohesive color palette of navy blue, merlot red and rich coppers with cream and gold accents, which provide warmth to the space and work with luxe upholsteries to deliver on the eclectic, Charleston-inspired vibe and elegant ambiance.
“The new design combines classic elements of The Ravenous Pig that fans of the restaurant know and love with new enhancements and exciting and unexpected additions that will entice diners before they even order their meals,” said Woodman. “I’m excited that guests will be fully immersed in a space that complements The Ravenous Pig’s elevated, Southern cuisine.”
Upon entering, guests are greeted by a custom art piece by Locol Arts and Mojo Metalworks which pays homage to the restaurant’s butcher cut specials by showcasing an artistic collection of chef’s knives. And more unique art awaits guests around every corner. In the main dining room, guests dine in rich, leather booths underneath a curated, eclectic gallery wall with nods to the history of The Ravenous Pig, inviting guests to learn more about the now iconic restaurant’s origins in Central Florida.
Custom carpeting, feather chandeliers and other art immerse diners in a unique and upscale dining experience as they explore the space.
The bar now features an eye-catching, newly released Cambria quartz countertop with brass alloy veining throughout the surface alongside a deep navy millwork package to make the space pop. And it’s all tied back to The Ravenous Pig imagery with custom icons on each of the bar’s taps.
Even the bathrooms received an update with bold, custom wallpaper and new, dark-wood finishes. And the private event and dining space’s new design evokes feelings of eating in an upscale, Southern kitchen.
The Ravenous Pig is located at 565 West Fairbanks Ave in Winter Park. The 5,600 square foot restaurant seats 118 people in both the main dining room and bar, with additional seating on the outside patio and picnic-style tables in the Beer Garden for a casual, outdoor experience with a bar-style food menu. There is also an indoor, private dining space that seats up to 24 guests.
Woodman’s previous work with JP Restaurants includes the original location of The Ravenous Pig on Orange Avenue in 2007, Cask & Larder Orlando in 2015, Cask & Larder Orlando International Airport in 2016 and The Polite Pig at Disney Springs in 2016.

Mike Trudnak, who earlier this month left Aurora at the Celeste, the restaurant he opened in 2020, has reemerged in Daytona Beach at the Daytona Grande. He started his new job as the executive chef for the oceanfront resort on Thursday. On Monday, his former executive sous chef and sous chef from Aurora will join him on the coast.
“We’re trying to bring that Aurora magic over here,” Trudnak said in a phone conversation on Wednesday.
Not that it’s going to be Aurora at the Grande. In fact, Trudnak hasn’t even decided yet what he’s going do with the menu for the property’s main restaurant, though he said he expects the cuisine will reflect the diversity of his kitchen staff.
The hotel, which has been open a year and a half, is the only hotel with walkup access from the beach, according to Trudnak.
As I told you recently in a not-very-blind item – seriously, you could have figured it out if I’d written it in Farsi (instead of my usual farcey) – Harry Buffalo is closing. It was originally expected to close at the end of March but apparently got an extension. Its last day will be Saturday.
With that closing, all of the restaurant spaces in Church Street Station on that side of street, including those that were recently held by Ceviche and Häos, will be vacant. That’s the design, is seems. The property owner has a plan for the building. What is it? He’s not talking.
If you’ve counted on Harry Buffalo for your downtown lunches, you may find a replacement soon at City Hall. The owner of Bem Bom in Audubon Park is taking over the space that was recently an outpost of 4 Rivers Smokehouse and will open City Beautiful Cafe, serving breakfast and lunch only. It will not have a Portuguese menu like Bem Bom but rather will have burgers, sandwiches and such. Ryan Lynch of Orlando Business Journal first reported on the new cafe.
The owners of Ravenous Pig want to make that Winter Park restaurant look like new. It will undergo a renovation with a redesign by Anna Woodman Interior Design of South Florida. The same firm did the original Rav Pig (where Reel Fish Coastal Kitchen is now) and Cask & Larder (where Ravenous Pig is now) as well as others in the line of properties owned by James and Julie Petrakis. According to James Petrakis, the renovations will be done in phases so that the restaurant can remain open.
Belgian beverage police recently destroyed thousands of cans of Miller High Life beer, and not because they’d tasted it. They were offended by the beer’s slogan – the Champagne of Beers – and decided to crush the cans before anyone confused the beer with sparkling wine.
France, and by extension the European Union, fiercely protects the Champagne designation. Only sparkling wines produced in the Champagne regions – and only those made using the methode champenoise – may have Champagne on the label.
Miller High Life does not use the methode champenoise and is not produced in France. Also, it’s a beer.
Miller has been using the slogan for more than a hundred years – it was originally the Champagne of Bottled Beers because it was produced in clear bottles and looked sparkling. But for some reason, no one in France or the European Union has noticed until .
Which begs the question: What Belgian ordered a delivery of 2,352 cans of Miller High Life in the first place? The shipment was headed for Germany, so…maybe it was a prank?

Restaurant dining is about more than just having a delicious menu. Guests want the atmosphere of a space to transport them to a new place from the moment they walk in the door.
At Ela Curry Kitchen, diners can expect to find a dynamic menu and a feast for the eyes. The 1,500-square-foot restaurant from celebrated Chef Pushkar Marathe will showcase refined and culturally-focused food from across India, offering guests fresh, daring flavors through street food and a Thali-style dining experience.
A bold menu requires equally bold design. Anna Woodman Interior Design gracefully designed the quaint space to compliment Chef Marathe’s vision.
A Thali-style meal promises a journey of flavors and textures, with all the courses and components of the meal being served at the same time on a large plate. Ela, which means cardamom in Sanskrit, was the jumping off point for Woodman’s design journey for the restaurant.
The prominent eat up bar overlooking the kitchen is a rich green, inspired by the restaurant’s namesake spice. Comforting warm white walls, terrazzo dining tables and classic black and cane chairs create a clean palette for the rest of the vibrant décor. A one-of-a-kind wall covering embedded with gold leaf, elegant brass lighting fixtures, hand-crafted tiles and wood carvings evoke the richness of Indian culture and cuisine. Brightly colored photographs of food and spices line the walls giving guests a taste of what’s to come.
Whether they choose to enjoy their meal al-fresco in the intimate outdoor area or in the main dining room, guests will have plenty to explore with both their palates and their eyes.
Woodman, who lives and works in Jupiter, was thrilled to work with Chef Marathe General Manager Andy Dugard again.
“Chef Marathe has a talent for creating menus that inspire guests to try dishes and explore new flavors they never have before. It’s an honor to create an atmosphere that encourages that kind of excitement from diners,” Woodman said. “I wanted to create a welcoming and exciting environment for Palm Beach Gardens locals to enjoy time and time again with something new to see every time they visit.”
This is Woodman’s second project with Chef Marathe and General Manager Andy Dugard, as she helped bring their Indian fusion restaurant, Stage, to life in 2020.
Woodman has worked with nationwide restaurant brands and upscale independent restaurants previously, including Ruth’s Chris, Seasons 52, Disney Springs’ Polite Pig and more.
Ela Curry Kitchen is located at 4650 Donald Ross Rd Unit #110 in Palm Beach Gardens and is scheduled to open by the end of August. The restaurant seats 43 people inside and 12 people in the outdoor dining area.

Ela Curry Kitchen, chef Pushkar Marathe and partner Andy Dugard’s second restaurant, was set to open Aug. 30.
The restaurant, in The Shops of Donald Ross Village, will bring traditional Indian cuisine to space Coolinary Café vacated when it moved a few doors east.
Chef Marathe has been incorporating East Indian influences into his cooking since he opened Stage Kitchen & Bar in Palm Beach Gardens.
“Ela draws on all my experiences growing up in India and inspirations from family and friends, most significantly the traditional cooking of my mother and family,” Chef Marathe said in a statement. “Many of the dishes we are serving are prepared using techniques I learned from my mom, one of the best Indian cooks I know. This project is very close to my heart.”
The men initially had hoped to open a traditional Indian restaurant in the space that’s now Stage.
“We really liked the building, we really liked the landlord who didn’t think the area was ready for an Indian restaurant, so Stage Kitchen & Bar was born,” Mr. Dugard said in the statement. “Fast forward a bit, we became frequent diners at Tim’s (Lipman) Coolinary Café, which we love. When we learned they were moving, we knew we had a home for Ela Curry Kitchen.”
The chef said he follows the traditional way of serving the food, as well as preparing it — he uses the traditional thali, where multiple courses are presented on one platter.
As for that food, expect “chaate,” with Indian street snacks as pani puri, with beet, chickpea, tamarind and green juice, lentil fritters, or dahi bhalle, served with yogurt and tamarind chutney, a selection of curries, including his popular butter chicken, served memorably at Stage Kitchen.
And a selection of “not curries,” with masala lamb chops, salmon and tandoori chicken, as well as vegetarian options.
Chef Marathe and Mr. Dugard have partnered again with Bootleg Greg Cocktail Co. to develop the cocktail program for Ela, which will initially feature “Skandilicious” Shandy, Twisted Trunk Kolsch infused with fresh strawberry lemonade and fermented sake spirit; “Endless Weekend” Mojito, carbonated blackberry Soto Junmai sake with mint, basil, freshly squeezed lime juice, and cane sugar; and “Butterfly Effect” Mocktail, butterfly pea flower-flavored carbonated lemonade.
Beer from local partners Twisted Trunk Brewery and Civil Society Brewery will be offered, as well as Indian beers Taj Mahal and Kingfisher.
Interior Designer Anna Woodman, who designed Stage Kitchen & Bar in 2020, created a space with warm white walls, terrazzo dining tables and seating for 28 in classic black and cane chairs create a clean palette for the vibrant décor. The prominent eat-at bar is a rich green, inspired by the restaurant’s namesake spice (“Ela” is Sanskrit for “cardamom”) and is flanked by 15 counter seats overlooking the open kitchen. Outside, seating for 12 provides a casual setting for diners choosing to go al fresco.
Ela Curry Kitchen will serve dinner 4-9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, with lunch service coming in the fall. It’s at 4650 Donald Ross Road, Suite 110, Palm Beach Gardens; www.elacurrykitchen.com.

Liz Balmaseda, Palm Beach Post (Aug.27, 2022) – The highly anticipated, classic Indian restaurant by Stage Kitchen chef Pushkar Marathe, opens Tuesday in Palm Beach Gardens.
One might say the Ela Curry Kitchen concept has been a sensation even before its debut. When Marathe announced preview pop-ups featuring Ela’s menu at Stage in recent weeks, the events sold out within hours.
Some cool things to know about Ela:
The inspiration.Named after the Sanskrit word for cardamom, Ela is an ode to Marathe’s travels throughout his native India. The son of an Indian Air Force radar technician, Marathe explored his homeland’s diverse mix of cultures and flavors as his family moved to new bases in new states. He draws inspiration from those years as well as from his time in college and his visits to neighborhoods and homes that were strikingly different from his family’s Hindu, vegetarian household.
“What I learned is that the true Indian food lies within the households of India,” Marathe says. “What I’m doing is taking inspiration from the food I learned by eating at my neighbors’, friends’ and family’s houses. This is my interpretation of the food I loved as I traveled throughout the country.”
The food. The menu lists Indian street snacks (“chaat”), nine types of curry dishes, various “not curry” dishes, breads, rice dishes, chutneys and other condiments, plus a thali-style tasting menu. That tasting menu features the traditional thali fashion, in which dinner courses are presented as multiple components on a large serving plate. While most entrees are served thali style, the special tasting menu is an option that’s offered for the entire table for $65 per person.
Menu highlights include lentil fritters with yogurt, tamarind chutney and crispy sev noodles (dahi vada), Kerala beef short rib with curry leaves, star anise and coconut oil, masala lamb chops with tamarind, goda masala, cashews, raisins and chives, tandoori chicken with cilantro chutney, mint and red onion, and desserts such as karanji pastry stuffed with coconut, mango, jaggery and ghee.
The space. Marathe and his Stage business partner, Andy Dugard (former general manager at Buccan Palm Beach), transformed the original Coolinary Café location at The Shops of Donald Ross Village plaza in northern Palm Beach Gardens.
That space had become available when chef Tim Lipman merged his acclaimed café with his bar, The Parched Pig, to create a larger restaurant simply called Coolinary.
The Ela partners and interior designer Anna Woodman gave the space a look that’s both regal and relaxed. Terrazzo dining tables and black cane chairs are set by a beautifully textured accent wall that’s done in smoky blue-gray with shimmering gold touches.
The intimate space offers seating for 28 at the indoor tables, 15 at the indoor bar/counter and a dozen or more at Ela’s sidewalk tables.
Location: 4650 Donald Ross Road, Suite 110 in the The Shops of Donald Ross Village, Palm Beach Gardens, 561-345-2196, ElaCurryKitchen.com
Hours:Ela opens at 4 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 30) and will serve dinner Tuesdays through Sundays from 4 to 9 p.m. Lunch service is planned for fall.
Reservations: They’re strongly encouraged and can be made via Ela’s website or by phone.

JUPITER, Fla. (Feb. 18, 2020) – When diners step into the newly opened Stage, they’ll be transported—but they might not be sure exactly where.
That’s part of the vision for the modern small-plates eatery, opened Friday on the famed PGA Boulevard. The concept (pronounced “staahj”) is the latest from celebrated Chef Pushkar Marathe, who was inspired by the combination of his Indian roots and extensive global travels.
Interior Designer Anna Schmidt helped translate that vision into the look of the space, featuring colorful global touches throughout her design.
Schmidt’s design works to mimic hints of what diners will see on their plates at Stage. While Marathe’s food has been celebrated at his past concepts, he has said the menu will be anything but stuffy. In fact, the restaurant takes its name from the lowest, most humble position in a kitchen.
The feel of Stage, too, is decidedly approachable. Rich blues, navy and dark gray flow through the space, met with touches of black iron and distressed wood. Exposed brick gives off an air of comfort. A warm, natural floor continues the vibe, and plush sofas and leather chairs in the entry welcome guests. Even so, copper accents—in particular, stunning copper lighting throughout—add a hint of polish.
Greenery throughout the space, as well as spice displays, hint at tastes soon to dance over diners’ palates.
Schmidt, who lives and works in Jupiter, said the project was a dream come true.
“Chef Marathe and General Manager Andy Dugard had an incredible vision for this concept. Being able to take that and help complete the atmosphere with this design is exactly why I love what I do,” Schmidt said. “Being able to do this right in my own backyard, in Palm Beach Gardens, and to help bring this great concept to our community was an added bonus.”
Schmidt has worked with nationwide restaurant brands and upscale independent restaurants previously, including Ruth’s Chris, Seasons 52, Disney Springs’ Polite Pig and more.

TAMPA, Fla. (Oct. 18, 2019) – Anna Schmidt Interior Design has been selected for work on Free the Cork Wine Bar, a wine tasting and small plates restaurant coming to Sparkman Wharf, Tampa’s transformational Water Street Tampa neighborhood.
Anna Schmidt, of Anna Schmidt Interior Design, has been selected for work on Free the Cork Wine Bar at Sparkman Wharf.
Free the Cork Wine Bar, scheduled to open spring 2020, is the new hotspot for Sparkman Wharf’s office tenants, visitors and the Tampa community as a whole. The restaurant is located at 615 Channelside Drive on the ground floor of Sparkman Wharf. Overlooking views of a scenic park and dining garden, it will serve as a place for friends and family to gather around, and share over amazing small plates or glass of wine.
Anna Schmidt will blend this concept of fellowship with city influences, bringing the project to life with a high-end industrial, yet chic, design.
Project highlights include:
The wine bar is over 4,000 square feet and will seat approximately 142 people throughout the bar, dining and patio areas.
Striking concrete elements and industrial millwork will be seen throughout the space, creating a sleek city vibe.
Sparkling glass chandeliers hanging across the restaurant will add elegance to the refined yet edgy interiors.
The large, central bar will serve as the hub of this project. Featuring suspended ceilings, rustic details and surrounded by plush barstools, this space will invite guests to sit back and relax, sharing good eats and worldly wines.
In addition to the stunning bar and lounge area, there will also be a private room perfect for holding events, wine tastings and special wine-pairing dinners. A “grab and go” window will be installed to offer options like wines by the glass, European sandwiches, cheese and charcuterie and coffee to the busy Tampa residents or people wishing to stroll along the Riverwalk. For those who like to see the sunset and feel the breeze off the water, patio dining is available. All of these features will keep in line with the clean, stylish finishes throughout the wine bar, tying in elements used elsewhere in the project.
“It’s an honor to be chosen to design Free the Cork Wine Bar,” said Schmidt. “Sparkman Wharf is a beautiful destination in downtown Tampa, just steps from the waterfront. I’m looking forward to creating a chic industrial design in this area and can’t wait for everyone to see the finished project. I’m also pleased to be working with BCA Architecture of Orlando and Interstruct Commercial Construction of Tampa, two amazing professional teams in the industry.”
Free the Cork Wine Bar is just one of the many incredible projects Strategic Property Partners has brought to downtown Tampa. The company aims to elevate the city’s national prominence, all while incorporating principles such as sustainability, connectivity, walkability, design quality and wellness.

MIAMI, Fla. (June 27, 2019) – Located right on Biscayne Bay, the Hard Rock Café has long been a go-to spot for dining and music in Miami. Now, the restaurant has a whole new look.
Designer Anna Schmidt, of Anna Schmidt Interior Design, completed an interior refresh of the Miami landmark to match the city’s vibrant energy while staying true to the iconic Hard Rock brand.
Design highlights include: The refresh included more than 8,000 square feet of dining space and nearly 1,000 square feet of retail space. The design focused on incorporating the brand’s musical elements while making it unique to Miami—one of the brand’s most popular locations.
A chain drapery depicting Miami resident DJ Khaled greeting guests in the hostess area
A backdrop wall with brass cymbals on display, along with vibrant Hard Rock signage
A modern, striking bar and backbar, replacing the venue’s historic guitar-shaped bar
The entire indoor space was painted, and new wood-look floors were installed throughout. The space also features new seating, including feature banquettes, and a new bar lounge.
Guests can enjoy the indoor dining space, which seats about 340, or take in the views from the outdoor patio, which seats about 150.
One of the challenges of this project, Schmidt said, was accommodating the foot traffic of the restaurant. Because the Miami location is so popular, Schmidt kept durability in mind throughout the design process, choosing furnishings, décor and textiles that could withstand heavy use, all while keeping the style consistent with the design.
“It was an honor to work on such an iconic property here in Miami and with this worldwide brand,” Schmidt said. “Blending the two made this project so fun. I love the results and know guests will too!”
Anna Schmidt Interior Design has worked with many nationwide brands, franchises and upscale independent restaurants across the country. Notable projects the firm has completed include Disney Springs’ Polite Pig, Cocina 214 in Winter Park and Cask & Larder in the Orlando International Airport.

Anna Schmidt Interior Design selected for work on Stage
South Florida commercial designer contracted for new restaurant in Palm Beach Gardens
JUPITER, Fla. (Feb. 4, 2019) – Anna Schmidt Interior Design, South Florida’s premiere commercial interior design firm, has been commissioned to design an acclaimed Miami chef’s latest project.
ANNA SCHMIDT, OF ANNA SCHMIDT INTERIOR DESIGN, HAS BEEN SELECTED FOR WORK ON STAGE.
The renowned Chef Pushkar Marathe is opening Stage (pronounced “staahj”), a modern small-plates restaurant in Palm Beach Gardens. The eatery will offer fresh bites inspired by Marathe’s Indian background combined with global influences from his travels. The food, drink and service will all be impressive, but the concept aims for an approachable vibe.
Anna Schmidt will be a big part of delivering that through the design. To mimic Stage’s offerings, Schmidt will take inspiration from the chef’s travels, delivering an eclectic global feel. Hints of the eatery’s flavorful ingredients will be woven into the design in
creative ways as well.
To deliver on the decidedly un-stuffy atmosphere, Schmidt is planning a bar-centric focus with comfortable lounge seating. Throughout the restaurant, there will be several dining environments, such as seating at the Chef’s line and versatile larger party seating. A patio promises to be popular, offering guests a unique outdoor dining experience. Anna Schmidt will be a big part of delivering that through the design. “Design is such an important part of delivering on a restaurant’s concept,” Schmidt said. “I’m thrilled to be working closely with Chef Marathe and General Manager Andy Dugard to fully execute their vision in a beautiful and memorable way at Stage.”

Often, travelers want to get an authentic taste of their destination. At Orlando International Airport, visitors have one of the best chances to do that in all of North America.
Credit: Gary Bogdon Cask & Larder at Orlando International Airport was ranked No. 3 on USA TODAY’s list of Best Airport Local/Regional Dining.
Cask & Larder’s OIA location, designed by Anna Schmidt, was recently ranked No. 3 among the Top 10 Airport Local/Regional Dining in North America by USA TODAY.
Cask & Larder, which was a popular destination in Winter Park, was tapped to bring its local flavor to OIA’s Terminal 2 in 2015. A project of James Beard-nominated chefs James and Julie Petrakis, it serves up farm-to-table fare, signature drinks and beer.
But though the food gives diners a taste of Orlando, the design also helps transport them away from the terminal. Renowned restaurant and commercial interior designer Anna Schmidt drew on sustainable and natural elements to bring the restaurant’s theme to life.
The eatery incorporates wood and pops of sky blue and red. Wooden fencing and lush greenery serve to separate the space from the rest of the terminal, and at the center of it all is a huge oak tree with lighted lanterns and reclaimed jars hanging from its boughs.
The airport location of Cask & Larder opened late last year. The team worked closely with Johnny Rivers of Inglur, Inc. and Peter Amaro, Jr., CEO of Master ConcessionAir, LLC (MCA) to bring the concept to the OIA terminal.
The project’s architect was BCA Architecture, and the general contractor was Gomez Construction.
To compile the top 10 listing, USA TODAY worked with Airport Revenue News, which had industry experts vet and nominate 15 finalists. USA TODAY’s 10Best readers then had four weeks to vote daily.
Cask & Larder beat out airport restaurants around the country, including those at Los Angeles International Airport, Boston Logan International Airport, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International and Denver International Airport.
One of the topics I am finding more often with current clients is their desire to incorporate some “life” into their projects.
They are requesting products and spaces with eco-friendly components much more now than ever before. Natural and organic materials such as cork, river rocks, natural woods, and stone are drawing notice, and the more live plants the better. Not only does live greenery bring vibrancy into a space, but the oxygen releasing components of live plants nurture our health and well-being.
Being a huge lover of the outdoors, I don’t find myself resisting! Keep an eye out for ways nature is being embedded into the newest spaces you encounter.
